It’s hard to believe that two weeks ago I was standing in Tokyo Station with my disembarkation card and an overweight suitcase. Today, I am excited to share my experience as the newest instructor for the English Boot Camp.
はやいもので重量オーバーのスーツケースと入国カードを握りしめて東京駅に立った日から２週間がたちました。今日は、イングリッシュブートキャンプで最も新人なインストラクターとしての私の経験をお話します。
My first experience at English Boot Camp changed me as I am sure it did for many of you. I saw students whose English had landlocked them to Japan transform into confident participants ready to join the global community. It is by no means an easy journey – after all, it is its own type of boot camp! But just as fresh faced cadets emerge out of Army Boot Camp hardened and combat-ready soldiers, English Boot Camp students too, come out on the other end global communicators. I am truly honored to be a part of this transformation process.
最初のイングリッシュブートキャンプでの経験は、受講生の皆さんと同様に私を変えました。せっかく日本で英語を習ってても使う機会がなかった皆さんが、グローバルコミュニティーに参加すべく自信をつけられる姿を見せて頂きました。その変化は当然簡単な「旅」ではなく、それがブートキャンプなのですが、新兵が軍隊のブートキャンプで急速にソルジャーに成長するように、イングリッシュブートキャンプもグローバル環境で一気に英会話が出来るように大きく成長します。そんな過程に少しでも協力できることを誇りに思っています。
A little about myself: I am a fourth year college student at Amherst College – a small liberal arts institution in Western Massachusetts. I am an Asian Languages and Civilizations Major, with a concentration on Japanese and Japanese history. Having grown up with a Japanese father and an American mother, I was always encountering Japanese at every corner of my house. I made learning Japanese a serious academic pursuit in college and quickly fell in love with the science behind learning a language. Learning a language is a like a straight-forward mathematical function; whatever you put in is what you get out. It is a highly controllable and predictable relationship.
This is why I think English Boot Camp has been so successful for so many students – a highly concentrated exposure to English over a short period of time yields significant improvements in English communication ability.
As the newest member of the English Boot Camp family, I have much to prove but have already learned so much. Thank you for reading my first blog post! And keep up your willingness to speak!
少しだけ自分のことについてお話させて下さい。私は マサチューセッツ州の西に位置する小さな大学、Amherst Collegeの４年生です。私は、「アジアの言語と文明」を専攻しており、特に日本語と日本の歴史を重点的に学んでいます。日本人の父親とアメリカ人の母親のもと、家のあちこちで日本語が使われる環境で育ちました。大学では日本語を真剣に勉強し始め、言語学習を支えるサイエンスに強い興味を覚えました。日本語の勉強は、簡単な方程式のようなものです。インプットしたものにアウトプットが左右される。わかりやすく予想しやすい関係です。
イングリッシュブートキャンプはこれまで多くの受講生を成功に導いた経歴があり、私はここにその答えがあると思っています。短期間で高密度な英会話への挑戦が大きな成長を起こすのでしょう。
