While planning for a career path, it never crossed my mind that one day I will be a teacher and let alone an English teacher.
By profession, I am a nurse who takes care of the sick. At first, I was forced to take the course but with time I fell in love with it. The fulfillment every time I nurse someone back to full health became my motivation. It finally dawned on me that helping people is my purpose in life.
Although I am not a nurse in my current job, I can feel the same fulfillment energizing my being as an EBC instructor.
It’s that moment when I see students shed tears of joy after realizing how much they have changed in just two days. These past few weeks were special to me after hearing some of students’ feedback like the art of nursing, teaching too is a career that touches others’ lives. Teaching has a way to encourage others in believing in themselves and when they finally do, people will make improvements on their own. There was one remark which almost moved me to tears. A mother of two boys said in a shaky voice coupled with tears rolling down her cheeks that she finally understood what mistakes meant in her life, a person just needs to accept it and use that same experience to be better in expressing herself using the English language.
The English language did not only change her vocabulary, it also changed her outlook in life.
I was touched by what she said because I too am a slave of the idea of mistakes. But after realizing that it is a necessity to learn and grow, everything went well for me and life moves forward. From a wider perspective, the effect of EBC on these students is not only limited to a certain singularity, knowing the English language, it is also life-altering. Yes, I admit that at some point changes can be scary, but it has also brought me to a better height of knowing myself and my capabilities. It was never my plan, but that is how love has placed me into the teaching profession. I can say with pride that I see myself doing this for a long time to help others get over their own shackles.
So, do you want to conquer your fear? Come on down to EBC and let us help you!
